Anne and her husband stopped in Maldon on the way to Bendigo to search for an area to establish a new home, twenty five years ago, when they saw the sign to "Maldon".
Coming into the top end of High Street, they walked only down one side of the street with all the beautiful shop facades, when her husband said "Quick, where is an Estate Agent?"
They then walked into Waller Real Estate where that wonderful Maldon Identity was in his reign, Graham Waller!
Anne initially asked for a place she could start a small area to display and sell her art and make a cup of tea for Travellers, basically just a small house.
Result was Graham showed her the then Cumquat Tearooms!
Anne had just sold her Art Gallery in Melbourne and had no intention of a business as this again.
Anne always follows her heart and never her practical senses. Albert her husband and Anne both, did not know the history of Maldon and were delighted when they realized what they had got themselves into.
Anne has an Artistic flair having been for many years sewing "Haute Courture" in her Melbourne Boutique.
This flair was reflected in the food she created. Many years ago an edition of Maldon in the RACV Travellers Book, listed all the Sites to be seen in Maldon, all the wonderful Historic places, and in that list was an article on her "Cumquat Tree Tea Rooms."
Thus she cooked for thousands and thousands of Tourists for over sixteen years, all the time having no time for her beloved Art, and always feeling frustrated. The best she could do was paint China at night, and the tearooms were adorned with her China paintings and every table in the Tea Rooms was served with tea in her hand Painted Teapots.
Once an American Gentleman, who had written a book that resides in schools in the USA on Australian characters named "In Search for The Man From The Snowy River, plus the Gumnut Babies."
His request was for a Teapot with the May Gibbs gumnut babies on it. Anne, who never likes to do as others do , created a lovely pen and
china design for which he was delighted. The result was he took what ever Anne painted, teapots, cups, mugs, trivets, plaques, etc. Dozens and dozens of pieces which were happily received.
Anne has won awards for her work, in different areas but has never had time to compete in large Award winning shows, but her works are around Australia, Denmark, England, USA, Singapore, Sweden, Germany and has great delight in making people happy with a piece of her work.
Anne now has her Studio added onto an old Original Miners Cottage, where she spends many happy hours, painting and helping others to what knowledge they want from her. After seven years Tutorage with the revered Late Ronald Crawford, Tonal Master, Anne is a Realist Painter.
Was accepted into The Realist Guild Of Australia, she has been tutored in watercolours by South American Alvaris Casternet, Oils with Ern Trembath, Hymen Slade, China with the late Castlemaine Painter June Hill.
Thus Anne Paints in all Mediums, Pastels, Oil, Watercolour and China.
There is a small Bed and Breakfast at her Cottage. Anne is open to enquiries for people to come stay there and enjoy country hospitality plus tutorage in painting.
Also available in this offer, are two more cottages at Agatha Panthers Cottages, at the foot of the Beautful "Rock of Ages" Mountain, just about one and a half kilometers from Anne's Home and the Village.
They, incorporated with Anne's cottage would allow about nine people, or less, to have a group workshop in Maldon, enjoying Beautiful Maldon views, painting "Plein Air" or in house working.
For details on probable bookings, enquiries are welcome.
Style of painting would be discussed, dates, prices and needs.
